This COP 23 Presidency Event will highlight the central role of climate action in the context of the 2030 Agenda. The event will also underline the need for the UN System to provide joint and coherent support to national efforts to implement the Sustainable Development Goals, Nationally Determined Contributions, National Adaptation Plans, and other interconnected multilateral commitments, by showcasing success stories and addressing challenges. Additionally, the High-Level event aims to inform the climate change community about the S-G’s process of repositioning of the UN Development System and contribute to raising awareness among participants on the benefits of integrating national climate plans and other internationally adopted targets, into national development strategies.
The event, convened by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Fiji and President-designate of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 23), Hon. Frank Bainimarama, is organized with the support of the UN Climate Change secretariat in consultation with the Office of the UN Secretary-General.
