This COP 23 Presidency Event will serve as a one-year stock take of initiatives undertaken by various countries on long-term strategies, particularly in the context of the 2050 Pathways Platform. It will bring together various stakeholders to share and discuss progress in the development of long-term strategies, including lessons drawn from domestic processes and regional efforts. The Platform has been supporting the Republic of Marshall Islands to elaborate its long-term strategy. The event will also highlight the growing interest of countries, cities and businesses on these strategies as they play a key role in guiding ambition in the short, medium and longer terms. Participants will deliberate on how the 2050 Pathways Platform can continue to support front-runners in developing their strategies and lead efforts across the world. Finally, the Platform will announce its Pacific 2050 Pathways Package aimed at supporting Small Island Developing States from the Pacific to develop their respective long-term strategies under the vision of the ‘Majuro Declaration for climate leadership’.

The event, convened by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Fiji and President-designate of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 23), Hon. Frank Bainimarama, is organized with the support of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) and the European Climate Foundation.
